In Wilmington I left the train and took a steamboat for Philadelphia. On reaching Philadelphia I went to the Willow Street depot and took a train to New York.

(Actor pauses before door.)

The entire journey was completed in less than 24 hours. I was no longer a slave.

(Lights fade to black as actor exits though door.)

At Rise

Actor is seated in rocker reading the Bible by the candle lamp light. Lights open slowly on center stage. Actor closes book and addresses the audience.
